In swimming meets, the terms “Last Call” and “First Call” are used to communicate the timing of events and ensure that swimmers are prepared and ready when it’s their turn to compete.
First Call:
The “First Call” is an announcement made ahead of an event. It tells swimmers that the race is coming up soon, usually about 15-20 minutes before the event begins. It serves as an early reminder for swimmers to start getting ready, check in with officials, and warm up if needed. It’s the first step in making sure swimmers don’t miss their race.
Last Call:
The “Last Call” is made closer to the start of the race, often about 5-10 minutes before it begins. It is a final reminder to swimmers that their event is almost about to start, and they should head to the designated staging area or marshalling area. This is the last chance to ensure they’re prepared and lined up before the race starts.
Both calls are part of the meet’s effort to keep the event running on time and to help swimmers stay organized and focused.
